Nesting season here in the UK can last from February to August depending on location, species and weather. It’s a great time to get outdoors and enjoy nature. You might see birds building nests, laying eggs or raising chicks. However, you should try to avoid cutting down trees during nesting season where possible, as it can disturb or even kill birds. At Bronzeleaf Tree Surgery, we offer more than just tree surgery services. We are also well informed of the laws surrounding when to cut trees depending on various laws. Read on to find out when you can’t cut your trees, and why.
At Bronzeleaf, we abide by the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 , follow good arboricultural practices , and never interfere with an active nest.
Booking Your Tree Surgery Services
We try to avoid cutting trees when birds are nesting. By booking your tree surgery services before the Spring/Summer, you can ensure that your work will be done in a timely manner without disturbing any of the birds.
As part of our Hedge and Tree Surgery Services, we will carry out a thorough “Wildlife & Ecological Assessment”. If we happen to find an active nest, we will postpone the service until the birds have vacated the nest. Understandably, some trees will need dealing with quickly. Therefore, we always recommend getting in touch early and before the start of Spring to ensure that your tree can be serviced. We are always happy to advise you, so please contact us if you have any queries.
Our Responsibility
The RSPB recommend avoiding cutting hedges and trees between March and August as birds are most likely to breed during this period. It is an offence to intentionally take, damage or destroy the nest of any wild bird.
This is a responsibility that we take very seriously at Bronzeleaf. Before beginning any tree-related work, we always assess the area to see if there are any birds nesting. If we do find evidence of nesting, we will record it and confirm with the client that no works will be carried out that could potentially disturb the birds. We understand the importance of protecting our feathered friends. We will always act in accordance with the law and best practices when it comes to bird nesting.
Officially, nesting season lasts from February until August, but this obviously varies. As professional tree surgeons, it is our responsibility to avoid interfering with wildlife. Supporting our local environment and wildlife is a core value of ours. We make sure we do not harm nesting birds.
Our extensive surveys will analyse the tree and surrounding area in search of any signs of nesting birds. Assuming we find no nests, we will be able to work on your tree, however we must be certain that this is the case. Our professionals have extensive experience in carrying out these surveys prior to working.
If require any of our tree surgery services, or would like to book a survey and ask about bird nesting, call us on 07854 369097 or contact our professionals online.
